What is zinc oxide?
This naturally occurring mineral is inherently antimicrobial and skin-soothing. That's why you'll often find it in skin care formulations for sensitive skin (like mineral sunscreens and eczema treatments), as well as diaper creams and powders!
Why is it in our underwear?
Zinc oxide has natural antimicrobial properties that help limit bacteria growth in fabric, including those that cause odor. It also helps create a cool, comfortable environment against your skin, making it especially suited to your most sensitive areas.
How is it incorporated into the fabric?
We use pharma-grade zinc oxide for purity. Rather than applying it as a surface treatment, the mineral is combined with our TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers before they're spun into yarn. That means the zinc oxide becomes part of the lining fabric itself—not just a coating on top.
Won't it wash out?
Unlike topical antimicrobial finishes or sprays that tend to wash and wear off quickly, our zinc oxide is embedded into our fabric at the spinning stage. That means the majority of the zinc oxide and its benefits are preserved throughout the lifetime of the garment—not just the first few washes.
Is it safe?
Yes! Our mineral lining—and every material we use—is OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified. This globally recognized distinction tests and certifies that our garments are free of over 1000 harmful substances and safe for direct-skin wear.
