Why Breaking Up With Your Ex Was the Best Thing You Ever Did

Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and let’s be real, it’s easy to get swept up in feeling sad, frustrated or sometimes even outright annoyed seeing everyone lovey-dovey (especially if you’re single). This year, we’re putting a different spin on it. Instead of focusing on heart-shaped chocolates and romantic dinners, we turned to our Huha Community!

We asked the big questions, like why breaking up with your ex was the best decision you ever made, how many times you’ve faked the big ‘O,’ and what singles aren’t missing out on by being in a relationship. The answers? Honest, hilarious, and maybe just what you need to hear if you’re feeling down about being solo this Valentine’s Day.

Why Breaking Up Was the Best Thing Ever

Break ups can truly feel like the world is coming to an end, but for many of you, it turned out to be the beginning of something WAY better. Here’s what you had to say:

  • “He had no motivation to further himself, education, or career, and mocked me for wanting to do more with my life! He told me my insecurities didn’t matter and to just get over it. Now I’m starting my dream program at one of my top-choice universities in the fall, and I’m pretty sure he dropped out of school (I blocked him so I wouldn’t know for sure 🤭).”

  • “Free from narcissistic abuse. Took years to heal haha. Maybe still healing. But at least my nervous system is at peace again, I can sleep, and I can sorta try to trust again.”

  • "It allowed me to get myself back and become an even healthier version of myself."

  • “Self-love has been the best thing for me since breaking up with him 5 years ago. I don’t get as much acne now (I think he was a stressor in my life).”

  • “I was finally allowed to love myself for who I really am 🫶🏻.”

  • “Because I wouldn’t be with the love of my life if I stayed with my ex.”

This just goes to show that - yes - breakups can be so hard. But it definitely doesn’t mean that it’s the end of the world. It could be the beginning of the best chapter yet.
