3 Simple Changes for Sustainability

3 Simple Changes for Sustainability

We know there are a lot of forces and systems outside of your control contributing to the state of our planet. But that doesn't mean we can't make small choices individually that, together, add up to a bigger impact.

So, because we believe in the power of community, here are 3 simple actions you can take in the name of sustainability. Take what resonates for you...

1. Make your clothes last

The most sustainable piece of clothing? The one you already own.

Caring for your clothes properly isn't just about keeping them looking good (although it does that too). It's about making them last longer.

Why this matters:
Clothing is being discarded at an unprecedented rate, with the average number of times a garment is worn decreasing 36% from 2000 to 2015

Following the instructions on the care label
means less wear and tear, less replacements, and less waste.

Tip: Using a wash bag (hi, here's ours) reduces friction in the wash and protects the fibers. Undies that last longer? A win-win for you and the planet!

2. Swap single-use for reusable textiles

You've heard it before...
But you don't have to start with everything at once. Is there just one thing you use daily that could be swapped for a reusable alternative?

Start with what feels easiest to you:

  • Clothes instead of paper towels
  • Glass containers or beeswax wrap instead of plastic wrap
  • Washable rounds instead of cotton rounds

Same function, way less waste over time.

Tip: Resist the urge to tell yourself these aren't 'big enough' to make a difference. The small changes are usually the easiest to stick to, which means more lasting impact.

3. Switch to better undies

Predictable? Maybe. But we're passionate about what we know:

  • Most women's underwear is made of nylon and polyester—synthetic materials derived primarily from non-renewable petroleum.
  • While cotton is a better option in terms of breathability, it's a notoriously irrigation-intensive crop. Did you know it takes about 20,000 liters of water to produce just 1 kilogram of cotton?

At Huha, we use ultra-breathable TENCEL™ cellulose fibers—made from sustainably-sourced wood, using a water-conserving process. Learn more about how Huhas are made here

Tip:
Next time you need to replace your undies, check the fabric composition on the label.

We're in this together

Hey, there's no judgement here. We're all just doing our best and learning as we go.

But if we each make a few simple changes and stick to it—together, we can make a big impact. 🌿

P.S. We're planting trees until the end of Earth Month—or until we reach our goal of 15,000 trees! You can help, no purchase necessary.
